Collection Policy


The following types of works are considered for inclusion in the museum collection:

  1. Works that show the relationship of mutual influence that has existed between European and Japanese modern artists since the opening of the Port of Yokohama

  2. Works that foster understanding of the development of and trends in contemporary art, and clearly represent the issues that concern artists today

  3. Works that are representative of photography as a medium of modern and contemporary art

  4. Works by artists who contributed to the development of Japanese modern art under the guidance and patronage of OKAKURA Tenshin and HARA Sankei

  5. Works by artists born or active in Yokohama

  6. Works of contemporary decorative art, design, architecture, film and video
