The organ at center stage is by the American organbuilder
C.B.Fisk,Inc.
The case is of mahogany from Honduras, with seagull carvings
for maritime Yokohama touch. The instrument has been nicknamed
"Lucy," which derivers from the Latin word for "light"-a
name that matches the brilliant tones that it produces. This
organ is the emblem of Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall. |
 |
The design of the instrument aimed to create an
ideal organ for a contemporary concert hall, allowing works
by composers from the period before Bach through our own times
to be performed with tone qualities appropriate to each.
Also, scince the design of Main Hall was carried out from the
very start with the acoustics of the organ in mind, the entire
chamber reverberates like a single instrument, giving listeners
in their seats the sense of being enveloped by the tones of
the organ.

The organ has a total of 4,623 pipes. In addition
to those visible inn the facade, pipes of various materials and
sizes fill the interior of the instrument, 3.6meters deep and
four stories high. The wooden pipes are made of poplar, the
metal ones of lead-tin alloy.
